What are transparencies?
If you have to make a presentation, and are going to be using an overhead screen projection, the use of clear plastic transparencies, in order to write or print what you are going to be discussing in your presentation, is a great way to convey your message to your audience. The use of transparencies will allow the person giving the presentation the opportunity to write, draw pictures, or print out messages of what the presentation is about, and special points they want the viewer to get from the presentation, onto the transparencies, and have them projected on a larger screen monitor.
So, rather than having to pass out handouts, sheets, and multiple pages of documents to those who are listening to the presentation, the presenter can instead place what they believe to be the key points, on their transparencies, and those listening can write down what they feel is most important for them to remember. These transparencies are used very often in classroom settings, where a professor is trying to get the lecture across to students, in an easy style, so the students can take notes, and engage in the lecture and converse amongst each other.
Transparencies are a great way to save on paper as well. Since most of them are dry erase, they can be reused once a certain lecture or presentation is completed. The teacher, or the lecturer, can simply erase what was written on the transparency, and will be able to use it on their next lecture. So, they can cut back on printing out multiple pages, and instead write out their presentation on the transparency, and once it is completed, they can recycle the transparency, and re-use it for their next presentation to a class, or to a group who is listening to a lecture they are giving.
